8th Grade -4th Block - NYC 3D Graphs Project Options and Directions
In the Museum on Ellis Island there is a collection of 3-dimensional graphs that show statistics about the immigrants who came through this building in New York harbor to enter the United States . If you are going to New York this June you will be able to see these graphs for yourself. For now, we will settle for pictures to give you an example of what you will be doing for the next two weeks of class. (See pictures on data projector)
For the next two weeks, you will be working to create a 3-dimensional graph using one of the options from the attached page. Your graph must be at least 1 cubic foot in size but can be no larger than 27 cubic feet. You may build your graph out of any material you wish as long as it can be moved once it is completed. Your graph will be graded based on the rubric given in class.

Musical Monday
7th: Today in class we reviewed properties of mathematics that we knew from last year and added the Transitive Property to our knowledge bank. We played a little game of "Ring Around the Classroom" for practice with properties. We will do more with the Distributive Property on Wednesday. No class tomorrow due to field trip.
8th- 2nd block: Today in class we reviewed multiplication of polynomials, then talked about how we can connect what we know about powers and exponents with what we know about multiplication of monomials to form a rule for raising monomials to powers. We then talked about how we can use our knowledge of multiplication and division being inverse operations to divide monomials. Since we know that to multiply monomials you add the exponents on the variables, it follows logically that to divide monomials you subtract those exponents! Students should complete EdHelper worksheet #1-16 for homework. We will have a quiz on multiplying and dividing polynomials on Wednesday.
8th-4th block: Today in class we did a mixed review of adding and subtracting polynomials. We will continue review tomorrow and will have a quiz on this topic Wednesday.
