Thought Provoking Thursday

Did you know kids really don't want to THINK anymore? I'm not so sure they ever did, because I seem to remember being that way as a student sometimes, but we must learn as we grow up to think for ourselves. I am not sure that anyone can teach you this skill, there just comes a day when the light bulb finally flashes on and our brain begins to be an independent thinkers. Sometimes as parents we may wish that those independent thinkers would listen to some of our advice, but as a teacher I long for more students who are willing to truly THINK! The answers to math problems, like life's problems, are not always handed to us on a silver platter! We must be willing to problem solve, guess and check, and sometimes fail, but ultimately be willing to put our brains to work and THINK! Ok....Enough of that soap box for today!

6th: The quiz from yesterday was returned and we were able to go over the majority of it. We will finish going over the answers tomorrow and do a puzzle with two-step equations for one last review.
7th: We played Percent Jeopardy as a review for tomorrow's TEST in class today. We will have a test on all of percents and the applications of percents tomorrow! STUDY!!
8th -2nd Block: We proved that the volume of a pyramid is 1/3 of the volume of a prism with the same base and height. Ask about my awesome pouring skills!! Students have a HW sheet of word problems to practice their volume and surface area skills.
8th - 4th Block: Today we took and graded a quiz on 2D Formulas and Changing Dimensions. Some students are still struggling to remember the formulas. PLEASE ask your child to see this quiz and work with them if they still need to study the formulas!! We will begin 3D figures tomorrow.
