Mrs. Burford’s Classroom Information and Expectations 2007-2008

Grading Weights –
40% Tests, Projects, Common Assessments
30% Quizzes
20% Classwork
10% Homework

Retakes/ Test Corrections –
You will NOT be given the opportunity to retake tests this year. However, you will have the opportunity to do test corrections to earn back partial credit on problems that you miss on a test. You may choose to do test corrections no matter what your test grade is. To do test corrections you must stay after school on the Friday following the date that the test is returned to you unless other arrangements are made with the teacher beforehand. Test corrections may not be done at home.

Notebooks –
You will be required to keep a math notebook this year. This will be a 3-ring binder. In it you should have a one subject spiral notebook to be used for “Problems of the Day” and loose leaf notebook paper for notes. You may also want to keep a zipper bag with pencils, your green pen, and calculator in this notebook since you may need these everyday. Some students choose to use a 3 hole punched pocket folder that can be removed and taken home for homework and study notes, this pocket folder is optional but suggested. Notebooks can be kept in the classroom or taken back and forth to class, but be sure that you have it in class daily!
It will be worth it to you to keep up with this notebook!! Not only will it help you stay organized, it can potentially help your quarter grade. At the end of each quarter, notebooks will be checked. If your notebook is complete your lowest classwork and quiz grades will be dropped!

Assignment Blog/ Makeup Work–
I will try my very best to update this blog daily by 4:00 pm. Parents can access this blog to see what we are studying in class and students can use it as a reminder if needed. If you are absent it will be your responsibility to get the assignments you miss from this blog. If you do not have internet access please check the bulletin board in class for a printout or call to pick up a print out in the school office if needed.

Classroom Expectations (With a little bit of Grandma’s wisdom) -

- If you have been asked to do something at least twice and you are not beginning the task, you are being directly disobedient.

- DON”T make excuses!! “2 wrongs don’t make a right!” If you mess up, don’t try to cover it up. Accept your mistakes and learn from it.

-No head bobbin’, lip smackin’, eye rollin’, or back talkin’!

- Be Prepared – Bring all materials for the day.

-“You can never go wrong doing RIGHT!” Seek to do your BEST, which is always the RIGHT thing to do!

-Listen to all instructions first, AND THEN if you do not understand, ASK!

-Be Punctual.

- Do not interrupt others. Raise your hand and be called on before you speak during instruction.

- Strive to build up the community of the classroom! Negative comments or “making fun” of others will not be tolerated! EDIFY!

- “Can’t never could do nothing!” Always TRY!

- Turn in all assignments on time. Work should be turned into the appropriate place!

- Gossip is disrespectful! There is no need to discuss another teacher/student in this class. “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all!!”

- Keep your area clean and take care of all equipment, furniture, etc. Treat this school like it's our home!
