EOG review is here!!!

All this week all classes will be doing EOG review. You should expect students to be doing sample test items at home for practice. We will be going over these questions in class as well.

6th: This class was given back the "All About Geometry" test grades yesterday and will have test corrections this week on THURSDAY afternoon due to Relay for Life on Friday. Students who need to do test corrections should arrange to stay on Thursday unless they discuss it with me and need to stay before then.  We began EOG review yesterday by completing the Goal 1 Sample Test Items. Today in class we went over the correct answers and students were given the chance to ask questions if needed. Goal 2 and 3 Sample Test Items are HW for tonight.
7th: This class has a little bit of a head start on EOG review which is great. We have already covered Goals 1-3 Sample Test Items in class. Students are to finish Goal 4 Items for HW, if they did not finish them in class today and we will go over them tomorrow. We will also do an additional activity for Goal 4 since it is one of the most represented on the EOG for 7th grade. Goal 5 will be covered Thursday and Friday.
8th: This class was given back the Common Assessment #7-Algebra test grades yesterday and will have test corrections this week on THURSDAY afternoon due to Relay for Life on Friday. Students who need to do test corrections should arrange to stay on Thursday unless they discuss it with me and need to stay before then. We began EOG review yesterday by completing the Goal 1 Sample Test Items. Goal 4 Items were assigned for HW last night. We went over the correct answers for Goal 4 in class today, and students were given the chance to ask questions if needed. Goal 2 and 3 Sample Test Items are HW for tonight.

So close, but yet so far.

Wow we are so close to the end of this year, but there is still so much to be done! Please help me remind your children that even as the days draw nigh to summer and we are all excited, we must still focus on the task at hand just a few more weeks!

6th: Today we went over the correct answers from the quiz students took yesterday on Transformations. Many students admitted to not studying for this quiz and lots of careless errors were made. Everyone need more study on this concept before the test on Friday. We also began 3D figures today with a review of elementary school 3D figure curriculum. We will cover Surface Area and Volume of Rectangular Prisms tomorrow and have a test on all of Geometry on Friday. Below are the topics that will be covered on this test and suggestions for study.

Lines and Angles-

Classify 2D figures

Area, Perimeter, and Circumference

Transformations

3D Figures

7th: Today we looked at applications of the Pythagorean Theorem. Students will have a quiz on Pythagorean Theorem tomorrow.  You could study this http://regentsprep.org/Regents/math/fpyth/PracPyth.htm

8th: Both classes covered Graphing Quadratic Functions today in class. We will review tomorrow and have a Common Assessment test on Friday. This test will include the following Algebra topics:
Graphing Linear Function using a table,
Graphing Linear Equations in Slope Intercept and Standard Forms,
Writing an equation given the slope and y-intercepts, slope and a point, or two points.
Solve and graph systems of linear equations,
Graph and understand the solution to a linear inequality.
Interpret the slope, y-intercept, and x-intercept in from a real life setting
Graph Non-Linear (Quadratic) Functions

2 weeks till EOG's!!!

WOW! Can you believe there are only 2 more weeks until EOG's. 10 instructional days!
6th: Today in 6th grade we covered the concepts and rules for reflections and rotations in a plane. Students will need to do the evens on their worksheet for HW. We will have a quiz tomorrow on all 3 types of transformations (Translations -Slides, Reflections -Flips, and Rotations -Spins). Please encourage them to study the rules in their notes! We will go over HW before the quiz for any last minute questions.
7th: This class was given back their Tests from Friday today. Anyone who needs to stay for Test Corrections may stay this Friday after school. If other arrangements need to be made they must be made ahead of time! Students also had the chance today to get a glimpse of what they may see on the EOG by looking on the NC DPI accountability website. http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/docs/accountability/testing/eog/2003scstestgr7mathtis.pdf  We read together parts of the information and I encouraged students to look over each objective from the Standard Course of Study http://www.learnnc.org/scos/print.php?scos=2004-MAT-0007 and pick two of the goals that they felt they could work on before EOG days come. Students are encouraged to study these two goals independently over the next week and come to me with any questions if needed. We will do EOG review all next week. Here are some sample problems to get them started. http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/accountability/testing/eog/sampleitems/mathprevposted
8th: Both 8th grade classes got the quizzes they took on Friday back today. Please be sure  they look over any problems they miss. We will have a Common Assessment Test on Friday!! Both classes talked today about real life uses for independent and dependant variables, slope, y and x-intercepts. They will need to complete the worksheet we started in class for HW.
