Last Day of the Quarter = Notebook Checks

Today all classes were given the opportunity to organize and turn in there notebooks for end of the quarter extra credit. Missing work was also given out to anyone who still has NHI's in the grade book. Please ask your student if they have any missing work to complete. All work must be made up and turned in no later than Wednesday.  No HW unless you have work still outstanding.
7th Grade Test Corrections are today after school, and 6th Grade Test corrections will be Wednesday due to the short week and no school on Friday of this week. Thanks for understanding the necessary change in plans.

Rain, Rain go away! Come again on Saterday!

I don't know about you, but I'd much prefer this rain be on Saturday when I can just curl up in the bed and sleep!!! It was so hard for students to stay alert on this droopy day, and the real trouble was that the teacher was feeling the same way! But of course, learning must go on.....
6th: Today in class we finished up changing fractions to decimals and percents. We talked briefly about comparing and ordering numbers in all three forms. We discussed what they need to study for tomorrow test! I am including a few links that might help them as they study below.
7th: Today in class we took a common assessment test! I've graded thma nad they look pretty good! You will get them back tomorrow! Have a great night!
8th - 2nd Blcok: Today we reviewed Solving Two-Step Equations and Inequalities. We will have a Quiz Tomorrow!
8th - 4th Block: Today we reviewed One-Step Equations and Inequalities from the 7th grade curiculumn. We will have a Quiz Tomorrow!

Finally Drying out from Friday!

On Friday I went on an AWESOME field trip to Betsy Jeff Penn with the 8th graders! We were able to do a high ropes course as well as many great team building activity! It was challenging for all especially doing everything while being soaked. I am getting over the water logged feelings finally.
Today was also a great day! Here's the report....
6th: Today we went over using common denominators to compare and order fractions. We also touch on Fraction-Decimal-Percent Equivalence. We will do more with F-D-P tomorrow! HW is p200 #10-26 even and #30. Test Friday on ALL of Fractions!
I am going to try my best to pass back all graded late and makeup work as well as new progress reports tomorrow.
7th: Today we continued enrichment by learning how to Multiply Terms in order to simplify expressions. We also did distributive property with variables and double distribution. HW for tonight is to complete the odds at the top of the Edhelper worksheet as well as #3 and 7 on the bottom.
We will divide with variables tomorrow, review Wednesday, and have our 3rd common assessment on Thursday! Students should be studying Integers, Order of Operations, Exponents, Properties, and Simplifying Expressions by Combining Like terms.
8th-Both:Today in both 8th grade classes we reviewed all operations with polynomials. We will have a common assessment test tomorrow! STUDY!!

6th: Today in class students took a quiz on Multiplying and Dividing Fractions and Mixed Numbers. They were also given progress reports showing missing work. All missing work must be turned in by the 26th to be counted for the quarter. Many of them already turned in work today that had just been hiding in their binders! No Homework today!
7th: Students were given back the quizzes that they took on Tuesday with an updated progress report. If they have missing work, they will need to have these progress reports signed by a parent. All missing work must be completed by the 26th! In class we started talking about Simplifying Mathematical Expressions using Combining Like Terms today. They will need to complete the odds on the Edhelper worksheet for HW.
8th-2nd block: Today in class we did more practice with Solving Two-Step Inequalities. Students will need to complete evens on the worksheet for HW. Students were given an updated progress report. Missing work must be completed by the 26th!

Musical Monday

6th: Today in 6th grade we did an application circle with adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. It's a little like musical chairs mixed with math homework....just ask, we'll explain you if want us to. Study for Quiz on Adding and Subtracting Fractions and Mixed Numbers for homework!!
7th: Today in class we reviewed properties of mathematics that we knew from last year and added the Transitive Property to our knowledge bank. We played a little game of "Ring Around the Classroom" for practice with properties. We will do more with the Distributive Property on Wednesday. No class tomorrow due to field trip.
8th- 2nd block: Today in class we reviewed multiplication of polynomials, then talked about how we can connect what we know about powers and exponents with what we know about multiplication of monomials to form a rule for raising monomials to powers. We then talked about how we can use our knowledge of multiplication and division being inverse operations to divide monomials. Since we know that to multiply monomials you add the exponents on the variables, it follows logically that to divide monomials you subtract those exponents! Students should complete EdHelper worksheet #1-16 for homework. We will have a quiz on multiplying and dividing polynomials on Wednesday.
8th-4th block: Today in class we did a mixed review of adding and subtracting polynomials. We will continue review tomorrow and will have a quiz on this topic Wednesday.

Mrs. Burford = posting on time today!!

6th: Remember to review yourself on LCM, GCF, simplifying fractions and changing from improper to mixed and back from Chapter 5 in your text book, or with the textbook website. Let me know if you need help with this material!! Today in class we talked about how to add and subtract fractions that are not "like" by finding a Least Common Denominator. Tomorrow we will continue to practice this and delve into Mixed Numbers. No HW tonight.
7th: Today in class we reviewed adding and subtracting integers again and learned how to do integers on our calculator. We also talked about how a calculator can be a crutch and needs to be used sparingly for something like integers. Students should ONLY be using their calculators to check their work with integers. We also took notes and began to practice multiplying and dividing integers. We will have a quiz on basic operations with integers on Friday.
8th-2nd block: Student received their graded quizzes from yesterday and we went over the correct answers together in class. We began a lesson on multiplying polynomials.
8th-4th block: Student received their graded quizzes from yesterday and we went over the correct answers together in class. Students are encouraged to practice more with simplifying polynomials either by checking out a text book to take home, or by using the links below.

Magnificent Monday

6th: Today we discussed the use of GCF to simplify fractions. We also talked about relatively prime numbers and how a simplified fraction has numerator and denominator that are relatively prime to each other. We then discussed adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. For practice we did p230 #17-24, 27, and 28 in our text books. We will go over these problems tomorrow and talk about what to do if the denominators of fractions are not alike.
7th: Today in class we reviewed the order of operations then did a lesson on Adding and Subtracting Integers. Remember to think of Integers in a real life setting when combining them. For HW you should complete the integer worksheet. http://www.edhelper.com/math/integers3.htm
8th - 2nd Block: Today we reviewed adding and subtracting polynomials using the worksheets http://www.edhelper.com/polynomials2.htm and http://www.edhelper.com/polynomials3.htm We will have a quiz tomorrow!
8th - 4th block: Today we continued with simplifying and classifying polynomials. We used the worksheet http://www.edhelper.com/polynomials1.htm to practice classifying and http://www.edhelper.com/math/beginning_algebra4.htm to practice combining like terms. Student should finish the odds on the Combining Like Terms sheet for HW.
