Calculator Questions

Today was another great day! We took pretests in each class so there is no homework. Pretests are very helpful for finding out what a student already knows. In my opinion we would be wasting time if we totally retaught students things they already knew, or skipped over skills that we assume they should already know without finding out for sure that they do. To prevent this, I always give pretests at the beginning of the year. I'm sorry to bore you with 2 days of tests, but just remember they will allow us to have more time for active learning in the future!
Several students had questions about calculators. You will need a TI-34 11 for this class. If you are a 6th or 7th grader and do not have one, please try your best to purchase one. You will need it for at least the rest of your middle school carreer. They can be bought at numerous places, but I know as of last night, Walmart, Staples, and Office Depot in Stanleyville had them in stock. You may want to call around to be sure they still have them and price them before you go. One student said Target has them on sale!! If you have trouble buying a calculator, please talk to me! I can issue you one for the year if nessecary, but remember you would be responsible if it got lost, broken, or stolen! Parents, thanks so much for your help in finding and buying these calculators!
